So I swapped my AL103 side-gapped plugs with AL104s and gapped at 0.045 with no side-gap mod. Was out tuning and gotten on it on an open stretch then came to a coast and wanted to get off the freeway and pull a u-turn, once I slow down b4 exiting I heard a tapping noise. I puled over onto the shoulder of the exit ramp and popped the hood. I didn’t hear anything at that point so I blipped the throttle cable and sure enough the tapping noise I heard. It is in sync with the RPMs, meaning as the RPMs rises the tapping goes quicker. First thought was broken fl;explate but I called lysander and he said usually a broken flexplate u can hear at idle and not when u apply throttle. So I babied it to my brother-in-law a few miles down and checked around the engine bay. The tapping seemed to be coming from cyl #3 and #5.
I pulled both plugs at 3 and 5 and they were fine. I called dubob and he suggested the possibility of a losoe rocker bolt. I opened the oil fill-neck and checked if the rocker bolts were re-useable or non-reusable, and from what I could glance at the rocker arm on the right of the opening, it seems to be a 3/8” bolt, meaning it’s the non-reusable. Now I haven’t popped the valve cover yet as its dark and I had to head home. Tomorrow after work im gonna pull the front valve cover and check if cyl #3 or #5 rocker bolts are loose. If that’s the case, what should I do as a next step? dubob was the one who did the cam swap for me, so I cant remember how to disassemble the rockers and rocker bolts
i'll have to find the instructions i printed out about swapping and installing higher ratio rockers whe i was planning to get them installed on my own-but dubob did it for me too
