Did you take the alternator bracket loose?

And make sure that all the clips hoding any wires are undone so they can be moved around also. Gotta figure out what way it will slide out from underneath everything. Do like Reptiile said and it Will probably come out easier. I di it witout taking the bracket off. Can be done, but a major pain.

Make sure everything is clean around the injectors and such before you take it off as well, that way you don't have dirty junk falling into your motor.

    Just a tip.

Yeah, I had to take the alternator bracket off when I tried to remove mine.

Just beware that coolant flows through your alternator bracket.

'97-'98's the bracket doesn't need to come off, only the alternator. There is an upper bracket on the '97-'98's will hinder your task, but no coolant loss.

'99+ the bracket needs to come off..... Be prepared to replace the 2 coolant elbows that incorporate the bracket into the cooling system.

Can't remember if the EGR valve is in the way or not.

Remember, there is a valve train under that cover so it needs to lift straight off.

it was missing a part of it, actually it looked like someone just made a gasket out of the high temp gasket maker (the orange stuff) so i have a feeling it didn't set right so i got a new gasket and it took care of the problem for me

Happy to hear that. It kills me when people try to take the cheap way out and cause more problems than what it's worth.
