The dealer decided to disconnect the sunroof motor because he was too lazy to check if someone left it open before it rained (or so he says), but he refused to reconnect it. So I reconnected it to find that it will only open about an inch and a half before it stops. I then have to push the button twice to close it and it makes a clicking sound after it seals. Anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it?

    ShadowSwept,

Why did he refuse to reconnect it? What was the vehicle taken in for?

Well when u push it the first time its supposed to open just a little bit and then when u push it again its supposed to slide open all the way. As far as the closing part and clicking I'm not sure what that is. There's not much to things like that. Maybe just replace the motor and call it a day

GM; I think he knew something was wrong with it and didn't want it to be a factor. He kept saying he was too busy to work on it. This was just one old man running a used car lot so I won't be too critical, and I finally got my GT

As for the sunroof, the first tap 'crack' works fine, but if I push it again or hold it the glass only opens a couple inches. I took a look at what I could see of the track and it stops when the rubber feet on the back of the glass touch the edge of the cutout. The feet aren't stopping the movement, though, I made sure of that, but it still won't go back any further. I'd rather not replace the motor if I don't have to, anyone know of another solution? The old man did 'guarantee' the motor was good though. Is there a way to test it for sure?

With those motors they aren't really fixable. Its like a window motor. Ud be better off buying a knew one. I'm not completely familiar with that setup cuz I haven't looked at mine but its either a bad motor or the window is slightly off track?

Well I messed around with it some more and the right track is bent all to hell. Looks like someone decided to beat on it with a hammer. The drive cable sled seems to still move freely though, but both sides stop only halfway down the track. The driver side actually seems to be the side sticking, though that track is perfect.

The motor seems to be fine; it runs smooth and doesn't sound weak or slow down, it simply stops only halfway open. Closing is another story, and once I manage to get the glass to lay flat pushing the button continues to pull and makes a clicking noise for about the same length of time it takes to open about half way. It seems to be misaligned to the point that it thinks the window is half open when it's closed, and fully open when actually only half. Anyone know how to adjust this?

Also, my wind deflector seems to be missing. Where might I find a replacement?

Where at in Kentucky are you? ShadowSwept.

Best option is to go to a salvage yard and get a new Sunroof Assembly. Fairly reasonable too. And they are fairly easy to swap out. Drop the headliner and 4 bolts hold the assembly up.

Bowling Green. I didn't want to swap out the whole thing, but that track is a wreck. I needed to make a junkyard run anyway, just don't recall seeing any Grand Prixs there last time.

Not at all. I work for a Dealer/Rebuilder. and I have found out its far easier/cheaper to replace the whole track assembly than to try to straighten in/fix it. we've had a few that were hail damage or roof damage from the top getting buckled.

    Your sig is distracting
Would it be better to pick up just the track assembly and use the old glass or just grab the whole thing? My windows are tinted fairly dark.

I would just grab the whole thing. Odds are they will want you to take the whole thing. When the glass gets damaged its almost impossible to clean all of the glass out of the tracks.
