I've been looking all over the city for the torx e4 and e5 sockets and I cant find them anywhere. My next step is to just bite the bullet buy them online and just hope they get here soon. So my question is can i find an appropriate regular socket to use? Has anyone done this? Any suggestions?

    Like this one from Autozone?

    Search: e4 | Driver Bit | AutoZone.com

I would figure someone would have at least a 3 set or a 5 set you could buy to get the right one. You may be able to get away with using a 12 point socket, but not sure what size. Kinda looks like a 5/16 or similar.

Yeah but they don't have it in stock here, I would have to order it. I need to fix this ASAP. Thanks for your help though

i am also curious because not to many things need the socket, just usually the bit.

The only thing that I can think of is either he's trying to remove the MAF, which requires a safety torx, trying to remove the TB, or trying to remove the 2 studs that the ICM/coils sit on top of, which if thats the case then I would just thread another nut onto the stud and tighten them against each other then stick a wrench on the nut closest to the head and remove as noraml using the outer nut to keep it tight. Or just vice grip the silly thing worst case, lol..

Why ask if you can use a socket. If you have sockets in that size just try them, what can it hurt ?

I'm changing out the ignition switch. It's my daily driver so I cant just have it apart for days if the socket doesn't work and I have to order actual torx sockets online. It's not a fast install from what I hear anyway so I just don't want to be stuck in the middle and have to put it back together

Either there or maybe a true value, or an ACE hardware. Lowe's, Home Depot...

The only place I could find one local was in a screwdriver set at my local sears. I tried harbor freight and everywhere else I could think of.

I've pretty much tried everywhere local and no one has it in stock, harbor freight was back ordered. I'm just going to try to do it without it today and I guess order it online if I feel like I'm going to strip it. Damn "safety bolts". If I had just ordered it online in the first place I might have it now.

it was a ***** finding that e4(e5? whatever size it was) socket, harbor freights 6-packs or whatever were e5/e6 and larger. i think i found it at a classic auto parts store for like 3 bucks.

    97 GT - slow, rusty
93 CTD - more slow, less rust
