So I am trying to figure out if my tank is really 17gallons. Filling up the tank from just above empty I usually get around 13gallons in. After filling, the needle moves off of full in less than 20 miles. When it gets low, less than 1/4 of tank the guage fluctuates with accel/decel as well as turns, to a point where it sets of the low level annunciator.

I would suspect the guage....but twice now while decelerating, for a cloverleaf exit, the car stalled and I had to pull over and restart. Mind you being its a GTP ,I try and take the exit at 40-50mph when I should be at 30-40!! I have replaced the fuel pump so is it possible its not seated right???

I just have a hard time believing that with 4-5 gallons that should still be in the tank that it would fluctuate that much.

Do you have the steel tank or plastic one? I know 2000 was a fishy year for that. Some cars got plastic ones. If you have the steel tank the fuel does slosh a little and it's a slightly higher capacity than the plastic tanks. The plastic tanks must have better baffling in them because I have driven cars with both tanks and I notice the needle moves less if any with the plastic tank.

Mine is steel and only moves when I turn the car off. I can turn the car off with "low fuel" Come back the next day and I have 1/8 tank, then drive 5 miles and low fuel. Never moves while driving. The business truck 95 f150 now that sucker MOOOVES. 1/4 to empty when I accelerate.
