From what ive read on these pontiacs they are prone to rust.Mine definately is.There are some rust spots in some interesting places, hopefully i can take care of eventually. The main rust issue ive noticed is under the car.Its along the sides mostly, although there is a spot right under the driver side(in fact a quarter size hole i can poke my finger through to the bottom of carpet. That particular problem im hoping to get some welding done on.Now the rust on the sides is more, its a arms length stretch on both sides. My thoughts is to blast the rust off(or ive seen this stuff at the auto store that supposedly eats away rust),then i was gonna see about getting some undercarriage protection sprayed on,and also thinking of putting some noise deadening spray i read about. But anyway the rust on the drivers side almost completely covers the fuel filter and the line running from it.What would be the best way to tackle that. One friend said to probably run rubber hosing. Also running along the same side as the filter is a group of wires, also with rust covering them. Please tell me these arent brake lines!!

just replace the rocker panels. if you can weld and fab. some things, just replace them. Mainly becuase you cannont weld rust.

Sorry, but this information is lacking. ALL vehicles that are driven on the roads for any length of time are prone to rust, especially those that have seen salt/calcium chloride. It is not the fault of the car.

For the filter - if you can't get it off with tools, then you may end up cutting it off. I've been told there is a kit for the replacement for when you have to cut the lines. I don't know what the system pressure is, but I would think rubber line would be fine as long as you have the proper fittings.

Spray the the metal threads of the filter/fuel line with BLASTER once a day for a week or more before you even try to loosen the fittings. Use a 5/8" ? line wrench on the line and a ? wrench on the filter. VERY IMPORTANT- do not try to turn the line, only turn the filter. Good luck!!

I agree with BlackGT, rockers should be done first if you can. Just ordered mine

You can also buy bed liner in the can now, Dupli color carries it I believe if your local auto parts doesn't.

Once you have the rust gone, possibly your new rockers in, all your lines and such out of the way, one or two coats about 8-9 inches wide running the length of the rockers should prevent a lot of future problems. Some might not agree, but that's just my little spin on rust prevention. No one see's it and it could help you squeeze a couple more years out of 'em if you do it right.

Also, I don't have much experience with noise deadening spray on the outside of the car, but you can buy rolls of noise deadening material to go under your carpet, if you would rather go that route.
