I put a new motor in my daughters car. Everything has been going well. I did have a low coolant light for the first few startups after refilling the coolant (normal) but then it went away and coolant levels are good. I opened the bleeder on the TS housing until I got coolant out when filling so I feel like I sufficiently bled the system. Coolant to the top of the neck and proper level in the overflow bottle. No coolant code for several days and everything is good.

Last night my son and I put new headlights on the car and we were in the process of aiming them. When I got in the car I saw the check engine soon light on. So I scanned it and it showed a P0650. So I don't know what to make of that. Everything seems good and the car runs normally. Everything that I can see seems operational.

Then today she took the car out and she called home and said the low coolant light is on but the temp on the gauge is good. I know that the coolant level in the bottle was good last night when I came home from my test drive after putting in the lights. At that time I cleared the code that was on (P0650). When she called she said the low coolant is the only thing on no P0650 but I don' think that that one has had sufficient time yet.

When I turn the key (not started) I see that all my warning lights are lighting up and seem to be good. Also pretty much all the lights are working on the car. The only one that is out is on the left side steering wheel controls.

Oh, and the other thing I did yesterday is program in a new key fob. It said to pull the MALL PGM (she has the car right now but I believe that is what is was called) fuse when doing it, which I did. Everything seemed to go well with that.

So any suggestions on what could be going on with this? Maybe it's two different things but I feel like it would be a real coincidence.

The last thing is that I have no real experience with these cars so I don't know what are the norms. But the temp stays below half on the car and I have a new stock TS in (195 deg. I believe it is). Everything is stock on the car and there are no running problems. I's a 99 GTP.

Whenever listing a code, please list it's description, so everyone doesn't need to go look it up.

    P0650 Malfunction indicator lamp circuit.

This one is kinda funny..because it lit up to tell you about it. Might have been a technical glitch or something. If the one clearing keeps it away, i'd be happy. Afterall the FSM does say to clear and look for it again as step 1.

On the coolant light. The coolant sensors are a real pain in these cars. Keep an eye on the coolant and the light is kinda worthless. Unplugging the sensor will turn off the light as well, but stop you from seeing a low level if one occurs.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thanks Bill. I will remember to posst the description on the code but I am sure that I will never get another code.

I double checked the coolant and I plan to keep an eye on it to be sure that it is indeed good. If all checks out and the light stays on I will unplug it until I get a new sensor. I just can't stand to unplug things and leave them. I just like things to work the way they should.

We will wait and see what happens with the service engine soon light after she drives it to school for a few days.

I hate that feeling that you get when you have just fixed a family members car and everytime they leave the house with it you wait for that phone call. Then the phone rings and you think "here we go".

Thanks for the info you have big a big help through this process of getting this car on the road again. She has a new CAT back exhaust on it now and it's running really well. Emissions test passed with flying colors and the car finally has plates!
