I am hearing a cricket chirp noise in the car and its rather annoying. I notice it at all times. It sounds like its coming from somewhere behind the dash on the driver side (not heard under the hood). The one thread I saw on here was about the idler/tensioner pulley but noise is coming from the wrong side.
The other noises are random creeks and clicks, maybe water behind the dash? (hard to describe) coming from where I think is passenger side dash area.

We checked all fuses, everything is ok. No SES lights, runs fine, electrical components as far as lights are solid and do not flicker.

    Any ideas?

Are you sure there isn't an actual cricket?

That's what boyfriend told me until he heard it the other night for himself. It never stops until the car is turned off and its very consistent. I've also been hearing it for awhile before the crickets came out.

I would say its pulley related. Try spraying them with pb blaster or wd40. If your belts are old they may be loose/ slipping a bit.

Go buy a few house geckos at Petco and let them loose in your car. If the cricket noise stops, you know it was a real cricket, cuz they ate it. :P

To eliminate the pulleys and tensioner just remove the belt and start the car. Give it a little gas and see if it goes away. If it does then you have a tensioner or pulley problem. Reinstall your belt and dip some water on the belt. If it stops chirping you have a tensioner problem. I just replaced mine 2 days ago.

And when you have the belt off turn the alt. pulley it's possible the bearing is going out. Listen for the chirp as you turn that pulley.

I'm going to try spraying the pulleys with wd40 first tonight. To maybe elimante something.
Who knows, it may be a real cricket but it never stops even when you smack the dash.
And bill- it still does make the noise with it off, but the hvac does seem to run kinda hard and other noises are noticed. there is one of those "a leak detector has been placed in the hvac system" stickers. But its worked fine and ice cold all summer. It did have the motor replaced with one out of a Buick before I bought it if that matters any.

Drip water on the belts first before WD40. WD can be messy and ensure you wear safety goggles.

Ok, I'll try the water and inspect belts and pulleys tonight.
I tried recording the sound, but phone couldn't pick it up.

I'll report my findings in a day or so.

Um, stock intake box? They sound like crickets if you listen close.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

LOL I had a similar sound in mine. Doubtful yours is as simple as mine was but over time and driving the panel under the steering wheel, the one your knee would hit if you lifted it up to the dash, was vibrating... A firm hold and it would stop, I took it off and adjusted the clips and added some foam padding and no more sound.

Like I said, its prolly not that simple, but something to consider. If you can't hear it under the hood with the hood lifted, Its most likely in the cab with you... cricket or not

I have the cricket sound, too, and learned what it was about 4 months ago. It goes away when I turn off the radio. I don't mean turning the volume all the way down, but turn it off, completely.

    See if that kills it.

Ok, The sound went away when before i tried the water test. So I went ahead and did it anyways and it didnt come back until today on my way between jobs. THis time it wasn't very consistent. I turned the radio OFF (took face plate off) and no HVAC was on. I did not try wd-40 yet.
Could the fuel pump make that kind of noise?
Its not loud like a cricket but its the steady chirp like sound they make.

Any other tactics to try? I'll try the wd-40 tonight after work.
