i could take a look at it sometime if you want. I have to swap dad's clutch in his truck soon probably in a few weeks if you still have the problem then.

If the sound went away when you did the water test then it's the tensioner. They are around $75 from the parts store because it's an entire assembly. Takes about 15-20 minutes to do with standard hand tools.
When I have the temperature setting all the way up, or all the way down, I hear the cricket sound. When I have it somewhere toward the middle range, I don't hear it. The sound goes with the actuator motor moving is what I'm saying. I haven't looked to see if it's constantly moving back and forth or not, but just thought I'd post it.
Can you record this sound possibly and video of it? And show us where it sounds like its coming from?
I'm going to eliminate the stock stuff and do a open cone
I tried back when I first made the thread and it wouldn't pick it up.
I washed the engine down last night and it hasn't made any noise since then.
When sitting in the driver seat it sounds like its coming from behind the radio/dash area?
Well, it started making the noise again today.
Silly question, could it be connected to the AC clutch? (cuz it is going bad)
But it makes the noise with HVAC off and on, so I guess it wouldn't be that.
I didn't have a chance to cut out the intake box this weekend.
I need to clean up the filter and find time to tackle the job.
smh.
Good thing you posted in here because it reminded me, I was driving the grocery getter and turned off the radio and I could hear this noise that sounded like crickets and if I held onto the dash board the sound stopped if I let go it started again. There is a possibility that your noise could be the same as the noise that car makes. I believe its the dash rubbing against something that makes that noise. See if holding the dash makes the sound go away.
I've been wondering that too. Because I don't remember when it started making the noise, but I do remember hearing it after the aftermarket radio was installed...so possibly the removing of dash parts made something unhappy and it makes noise now?
What area of the dash did you push on?
If its making it tomorrow, I will give it a try.
I know smacking the dash super hard doesn't help, just hurts my hand
I would pop the dash bezel off make sure the radio bracket is good and tight. See if any of the bezel clips are missing or bent or anything like that.
And when I say grocery getter I mean the Caprice. But I just pushed down on the top of the dash and it went away.
