So I got my DP installed and it sucked. It took 14 times longer then it should have, nothing went together well, and to top it off it sounds like s h i t. I got it done and took it for a cruise and it sound horrible. At highway speeds it really doesn't sound much different but at about 2K rpms it sounds bad. It sounds like a old rusty car that is falling apart. Is this normal for an Off Road pipe or is something wrong? If it sounds like this because of the lack of a Cat, would a muffler shop weld in a cat for me and what would it normally run?

To be honest, I wish I would have never even done this. It was very frustrating and it sounds horrible now. I don't even know if there is more power because the sound just made me sick. I know my dad is not going to be happy with the sound at all either.

    Please help me out guys.

Do you have a resonator still? I'm assuming not.

You have an exhaust leak most likely.

Well I bolted in a Cat today and it sounds better. All of my bolts seemed tight. The cat quieted it up a bit and got rid of the bad noise around 2k for the most part. It is still kind of there though. I still do not like the sound to be honest. I wish it was still stock.

You got a leak or something, my other GTP has a 3" offroad downpipe to a stock cat-back and it sounds like a stock GTP, it is not noticeble louder at all, you'd never know its there. No drone, no nothing. It actully too quiet.

Surely you used new gaskets right? If not, pull it off and start all over. Get new gaskets.

A 3" downpipe + u-bend removal is the best mod you can do for these cars period. Most everyone here won't gain a damn thing by changing the cat-back, the restriction is at the downpipe + u-bend. Stock Catback actully flows pretty damn good, its the best part of the exhaust by all means.

you have a leak. did you bother to change the gaskets on the exhaust manifold and the catback? you wasted money on a cat for nothing, you coulda took it to a muffler shop and they woulda replaced the gaskets and installed it for you for now more than $50

I put new gaskets in and made sure the surfaces were cleaned before I installed them. I will check for leaks on Wednesday. I have to drive 3 hours tomorrow. Will it hurt it having a leak?

Hope you find the answer to your problem... My catback system is stock and will stay that way... well only change when needed. Like the fact that it is so quiet, that is until I get on da gas! lol

    Good luck with your problem.....
