Today I purchased and installed a "deflector" for the passenger side of my 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix under the plastic cowl at the bottom of the windshield. No problems there, but..
I knew my wiper transmission was malfunctioning because my wipers stuck "up" as is common for this vehicle. After I installed the deflector I checked out the wiper motor assembly/transmission. It is much more intuitively designed and easily accessed than I thought.
I watched the transmission work on all intervals, speeds, and even "mist" mode. The pin would not release in any case. So, I removed the torx screw securing the whole assembly to the motor and soaked it in WD-40 and then applied some heavy grease.
After I reattached the assembly to the motor it began to operate normally! Only problem is, I didn't note the position of the transmission at "home" position i.e. when the wipers are set to "off". If someone could provide me with degrees or even an "eyeball" approximation of which way the assembly faces in home position it would make my day!
Thanks Guys
