    i have a race on a 1/3 mi circle track in 30 days i need help with shifting a 97 gtp should i leave it in overdrive or shift through the gears thanks

    Leave it in either 1st or 2nd. Likely 2nd. You wont need much more than that for a 1/3 mile.

    What he said. If you don't have any setup on it you won't be going fast enough to have to come out of second most likely.

    put it in 3. the car wont shift up unless it needs to and the downshift is so quick it wont make a difference if necessary.

    Car will shift before redline. Hold it in 2nd, plant your foot on the gas and go. I know plenty of dirt track racers and none of them ever use 3rd.

    put the selector in 2 when you get on the track and dont move it. These cars LOVE to hang out in 2nd gear unless you need to go over 90mph.

    I just recently did a 3/8 mile oval with my gtp. Kept it in 2nd and it worked great. Did a 19.7 second lap
