    Good morning,

I have a 2005 Grand Prix GTP and occasionally when I put the key in and turn it to 'Start' the car electronics will 'reset' (all the lights go out, when let the key goes back to 'Run' they come back on). Most of the time after a couple attempts the car will finally start. I had the battery checked and charged, the Voltage gauge is listing about 14.xx volt.

I'm not sure where to go in attempt to troubleshoot this problem. Key switch? Battery? Starter?

    Thank You!

    Adam

I don't know for sure, but my guess would be the key switch. Possibly a bad start contact or something to that effect.

That was my first guess, as today I also giggled the key a little and it seemed to cause the car to work today.

Is that difficult to replace? It is the in-dash style.

I know that it's easy to get to. Simply pop the black ring around it off with a flat-tip, then the center bezel with the DIC pulls off (gently!). I'm not sure if any special tools are required to get the key cylinder itself out.

I'm not for sure but you might have to change some stuff in the BCM as well.
