i am planning on installing a AEM 9X4 cone filter. I have many parts and pieces for connecting like chrome extension, rubber reducers and connectors and wounting hardware.

My question is what to do with all the parts (like air sensor, rubber hose from air box, and line from flex hose connected to engine.

I posted pictures below to show what i am talking about since i am not sure what the 2 hoses do.

First picture just shows an overview of whole area. Yellow circles are where i have questions about reconnecting

How can the sensor be remounted since it bolts on one side to the air box.

Can the hoses just be reattached however? Or is there something special needed.

I would like to get my filter over near the fenderwell.

Please advise. Or show pics of your own install

    This is a 2005 GT

hmm, i don't remember seeing that hose like that on mine...but that's my setup...you can leave everything up to the maf and just clamp the filter on the end of it...

^^^^ ya, i would like to find what others have done with them. I do not see the air box hose or the upper air line to the valve cover on yours.

I don't think that is the case. My 06 (base) grand prix is the exact same setup. It was purchased brand new at a dealership in pennsylvania.

My car doesn't have that tube to the air box either. Maybe just pull it out and hook the cone filter up to the end of the MAF and see if everything still works right?

I pulled it off and then started the car. The large rubber hose pulled a huge vaccum for about 10 seconds then quit. Everything ran fine(or so it seemed.

Kinda pissing me off now that i have 2 Grand prixs and both have this stipud setup of the upper and lower hoses. I gotta find out what they are for before i go chandhing things around.

I don't have the right adapter right now for hooking filter to maf. Filter has a 4" opening and maf is like 3.25"

You should be fine putting a small cone filter on that extra hose. It is most likely an EGR hose. Similar to how my 02 camaro has that extra hose coming from the air box.

ok, here are some pictures of where the hose goes. You can see in 1 of my previous pictures it goes to (something) directly below the air box.

Below are better pics. Yellow circled are hose from air box.

Hopefully this can get sorted out. Otherwise i guess i will be making some custom air plenum that will accept the large rubber hose, the hose in the flex connector and maf.

i would rather find out what this crap is and if possible, how to get rid of it.

It's a friggin whatsit for cali emissions... One of these guys

I'd say Put an itty bitty filter on it (this will work), then maybe later get it tuned out and remove it

ok, i think i got it figured out what to do for now.

Anyone have any idea on how to have this removed. I have no idea what type of tuning would be needed or where to have it done. or whatever else would be needed.

May be easier to do my custom intake. Unless there is a benefit to removing this crap.

He is right. I was looking at the service manual. You will be fine by putting a small filter on the end that goes into the air box.

I am also kinda curious how i got 2 N/A 3800 gen III Grand Prix's with cali. emissions. I purchased both in Pennsylvania and the 06(base) I purchased brand new and the 05 GT i purchased used.

The 06 GXP is completly different. (getting traded soon)

Hm, I think the point of the thing is to make combustion at idle cleaner? I wonder if it's a benefit or detriment to performance... until now, I thought they on;y had these on cars back in like the late 60's and early 70's.
