I have a 2000 Grand Prix 3.8. After starting it up and driving about 10-15 minutes, milage instantaniously drops until the light "LOW" starts flashing and it shuts off.

I have taken it to multiple dealers in the small town I'm now residing in and nobody can tell me what's wrong.

It has been been reading MAF sensor and only one time it read MAF "and" low oil pressure. However, they're saying they don't know if that's what the problem is.

After I sit for about 15 minutes it starts right back up with no problem! I don't understand. It seems to me like something is getting hot and cooling back off. The mechanics are charging me a lot of money for absolutely NOTHING!

PLEASE any and all advice is needed! I'm sick!

    Welcome.

I've moved this to the appropriate section.

You'll get more views and hopefully helpful responses that way.

Try to pay attention as to what section you're posting in next time.

If you knew the precise codes the vehicle was throwing we might be able to offer more help.

, You say the light LOW is flashing? The lights you see being displayed Id venture to say are from the car stalling out. Intermitent stall can be hard to diagnose. Is the Check engine light on?

Yes, the digital light flashes LOW like it's out of gas, and cuts off while diving. Yes. the check engine light is on and I went to Auto Zone and to a dealership and both kept showing MAF sensor. However, no one can tell me if that's the sure cause of the problem. Thank You!

unplug the MAF and see if the situation improves.

Don't beat on it when the MAF is unplugged though.

Most likely your fuel sending unit is failing and it is sending a signal to the DIC so it is Flashing that you are low on fuel. That is the signal for when you are at about 2 gallons left right before the yellow low fuel light comes up on the left side of the cluster. This is typically what happens before your fuel pump fails on GM products, it will send a poor signal to the fuel gauge and or gauges.

Definitely seems like a fuel issue. Could it be the pump overheating and shutting off? No fuel, no go right?

I would test fuel pressure and go from there. It sounds like the pump is possibly grounding out which is also common on these cars. It could just need a new harness for the pump. Has the pump ever been replaced? Sometimes when people replace the pumps they crimp the harness and cause a problem that way to.
