ok so i have a bad ground and im wondering if this coud be the cause of my car losing all power over
night. when i go to start it in the morning the radio has been reset my ses light is off and my milage
display says 0.0, then when i go to leave as soon as i touch the gas the rpms start to wildly jump, like
it wants to stall. (occasionally it will stall and you cant restart it cause there is NO power to anything
my boyfriend sometimes has to wiggle the ground wire to get the power back, the battery and alt are both new
and in good working order) when the rpms start to jump around i shut it off and restart it and it runs fine
for the rest of the day... until the next morning when it does it all over again. yesterday when everything
came back on, the gas display is now flashing LOW and it has over a half tank?!? and i can hear the alternator
in the radio.i am hoping that this is all from the bad ground an d not something worse. if anyone has any
advise or knows what might be wrong i would greatly appreciate any help! thanks!

Fix the loose connection on whatever wire he's wiggling and let us know if that solves your problem.

Sorry to seem like it's possibly that easy... but you gotta fix the known issues or we are going to suggest those as first steps.

he said hes gonna fix it when the temp out is at least 40 my bf is my mecanic, he said hes gotta clean it and repaint it so it doesnt rust again, i guess it needs to be a little warmer out for the paint to set right. i hope it is that easy, just seems nothing is that easy with this car. ill let you know what happens as soon as he can do it.

ok we fixed the ground, the gas/milage display is working correctly now and i havent heard the alt. in the radio (but my bf said he still hears it a little bit and possibly another bad ground near amp in the trunk) it hasnt reset it self for 2 mornings now(keeping my fingers crossed!) but the crazy rpm thing still happens when i go to leave in the morning. i always let it run abou 15 min to warm up before i drive it, and im it the habbit of tapping the gas before i leave to see if the rpms are going to jump around. its just weird cause it doesnt do it until you touch the gas?!? we are thinking maf? please let me know if you think it might be that or something else THANK YOU!!! =)

RPM's go up or down and hold based on throttle blips? I'd say it's time to clean that TB.

rpms bounce down, its hard to describe, it bounces wildly down and back up and back down and back up... it doesnt ever jump up much higher than 1(000) rpm. it continues to do this unless you put you foot back on the gas but as soon as you let off it does it again, i will just shut it off and restart it and it is always fine the 2nd time i start it. it did stall once but started right back up. idk what "hold based on throttle blips" means? but i will ask if he cleaned the throttle body im pretty sure i remember him saying he already did it.

He's a mechanic right? Have him toss a scantool on it and look at IAC, TPS and MAF. If the TB is clean, it's probably not the IAC, doubtful it's TPS, probably more of a chance that it's a vacuum leak (would show on IAC) or maf.

I hope you mean he didnt leave the maf screen out, because you cant clean the throttlebody without taking out the maf screen.( Unless you take it off the upper intake and clean it from the backside or somethin, lol)

lim was replaced last summer i think maby that when he cleaned the tb, yes he is a mechanic but not working in a garage idk if he has the scantool or if it was the garages. we are thinking it is the maf or vacume leak we do have a code for evap emission control system malfunction (i think p0400, but not sure) and billboost i will have him read this cause i dont fully understand it all thank you!!!

If you have an evap code, that's a vacuum leak. I'd aim straight for whatever the code is suggesting. Any parts store should be able to scan it for codes for free. Get the code and toss it in this thread. Gearchatter.com has the FSM diagnostics up on their site. We can reference that to help him figure out the first steps of what to look into.

the code is P0440 evap emmition control system malfunction. the code has been there since we got the car. we have been thinking it a vac leak. we have replaced some vac lines and rubber T's up near the sc around the engine. also its "boost power"(idk what to call it) seems to come and go too... sometimes when i step on the gas it goes so fast i feel like im in a rocket ship, other time it just doesnt want to go fast. anyway we probably going to look into a new maf soon, unless anyone thinks it could be something else?? anyone know where i can get the best price for maf? can i go to a junkyard or should i get a new one?

Start off with this link GearChatter.com :: View topic - DTC P0440

Have him do what he can for the tests etc. There's a ton of things that can be looked at w/o a scanner etc.

Syracuse isn't that far from me. Bring hubs and the car one of these weekend days and between the two of us,, the toolbox, HPT and the GM manuals....maybe a few parts. Your car can run good.

currently the record for long drives to have me work on a car goes to a friend that lived 13 hours away in Ohio. Syracuse is around the corner in comparison. You are probably 3 hours each way.
