    I discovered that a 180 t-stat is only like 9 bucks at autozone.. what is the big deal and hype on this item?? more hp or something? is it hard to install 1 and how do u install it? if i get enough help and its fairly simple ill go to autozone tomarrow morning and install her lemme no guys thanks. PS: remember i am a noob haha. but a cool noob like rambo

    The theory behind the whole thermostat thing in general is more hp....will you get any or see any gains other than the temp needle not going as high...no...lol

    Well i have a 160 so i cant say that lol....i mean i dont see it hurting anything...a cooler engine usually lasts longer...but the fan will still come on at the same time because you dont have a tuner......so it would only help you when driving constantly....put 2 gallons of gas in your car for 8 bucks and call it a day lol

    Yeah, personally I used to run with a 180° stat up until recently. Anymore when I drive my car, I try to get the best mileage possible. And you will get better mileage with a stock stat. The 180° stat will cause lower mpg.

    The idea behind it is to keep the engine running cooler, thus keeping the incoming air cooler and more fuel. Some people would also put them in to keep the engine cooler to combat KR. But if you have a CAI, you won't need to worry about the incoming air so much. And if your car is modded correctly, you shouldn't have to worry about KR. So it is really a moot point.

    You can do what you want, but I will not be running a cooler stat, except for at the track.

    Don't run a 160*, it's not good for the engine. 180* is optimal for performance and the stock for MPG.

    I just switched back to a stock tstat from a 180. Didn't notice any gains, and did notice a slight drop in MPG. An internal combustion engine is most efficient at 195* +/- a few, so that's why the stock tstat opens at that point.
