Hi all....forgive me if this is listed somewhere else....I've searched without luck.
I just recently purchased a 1999 Grand Prix 4 door (3.1 Liter). It's just over the 100k mark and has a pretty beat up paint job....but the price was right and I've always liked the ride. The car does not have remote unlock features. When I bought it I noticed that the trunk release button inside the glove box didn't work. I spent some time today looking at the fuses and they were all fine...so I opened up the trunk lid and noticed the wiring to the lock actuator was disconnected.
I reconnected it and tried the button a few times and it seemed to work fine. So off I go running errands with the wife when I noticed that after a few stops the trunk lid light was flashing on and off in sync with dips in the road...I pull over and yes the trunk was unlatched.
Once I got home I found out that as soon as I put the car in park...the trunk opens. Without fail each and every time I shift the car into gear....leave it for 4 - 5 seconds and then shift back to park...the trunk latch pops open!! Obviously this is why the previous owner had the wire disconnected. It seems logical to assume that there's some wiring problem (grounding issue, cross wiring, shorting etc...) tied in with the signal being sent to show the car is in park; perhaps even a bad actuator relay. My question now is....where do I start looking for figure out the source of the faulty signal?
With no wiring diagrams, or color codes I'd just be guessing at where the problem might be. I'm curious if anyone else has run into a similar problem. Maybe someone has some insight?
Thanks in advance for the help.....I love my Grand Lemon (nobody shoot me, I'm not slamming Grand Prixs at all; mine is just a clunker right now and I dub it the Grand Lemon with much affection)!!
