Hey everyone, I'm having a problem with my 97 gtp
The car starts up and dies a few seconds later.
It feels like it has an transponder key problem but it doesnt have a transponder key.
If i play with the gas i can keep it running but dies when i let off.
'Some things i did were....power steering pump line replacement...low pressure line.
vacuumm line repair...the line from the manifold that runs to the ventilation inside the car...
other than that i am at a lose.
The battery did go dead and i did charge it overnight.
My pickup had a similar problem after the battery was dead for a while...it had to learn tach....
I drove it in the garage with no issues....went to drive it out and now it wont stay running.
    Anyone have and ideas????
    TIA

no security light...i bought a two dollar key and drove the car a few days so i dont think it has a transponder issue...just feels like it.
    Hmm...regulator?..perhaps?
I forgot to mention i am throwinga code...vacuum purge something.
It has been that way for a while...i did change the gas cap.
i hear ther fuel pump running.
how difficult is the regulator to change?

simple as pie, first off, pull the vacuum line off to see if it may be bad. If you pull the line off and fuel comes out, the regulator is bad.

Can you keep the car running with the gas pedal?

ok guys i pulled the vac line off and no fuel came out...car was not running.
looks like the regulator is a bear to replace...looks like the metal fuel rails are connected as a one piece unit.
as far as a vac leak...i did have vac lines that were cracked but the car ran before
    i replaced them.
there are two vac lines that i messed with...the one from the manifold that feeds a tee under the relay box on the pass fender...one goes to the inside for the heater..th other on i dont know where that goes

Take pictures. Also for future reference the fpr is held in buy a snap right and pulls out of the rail, but that is not your issue.

ok so it doesnt look like the regulator if its no leaking gas right?
    i'm stumped
i dont think its a vac leak either though
when it was running i was able to pull vac lines off and it would stay running etc.
seemss weird it was ok and now its dead
could it be a tach learn problem?
like i said before i had a truck that did the sme thing when the battery was dead
ran like crap and wouldnt stay running with out playing with gas pedal...after 5 or 10 minutes it would calm down and run good again

Well start with checking fuel pressure and pull some plugs and see what they look like.

when i start it without playing with the gas pedal it fires right up and stays running for 4 or 5 seconds. and sounds good
when i turn the key i hear the fuel pump, then crank and it starts right up then dies
I suppose it could be fuel pressure...have no clue how to check it
guess ill look at it again in the morning and see if something came unplugged electrically but i doubt it
    ughh
