okay, well i have narrowed it down to the spark plugs i think. i noticed that the middle front boot was not in as far as the rest. i replaced that wire. its not doing it as bad but it is def. still doing it. i used app606 autolie double platnium plugs. man this sux. i think the wires i bought may just be ****. they were $20 at advanced. xact was the brand here is a link

    hope this helps

$20 wires? Sounds a little cheap.

Yeah they could, having a break in the wire coating, or a weak spot, the spark can jump to anything else metal. My 2002 had the same deal, but it was more on/off, depending on engine load. So one night we popped the hood, and revved it some, and sure enough, we saw sparking.

Replaced the wires with some 10.3mm wires, no problems since.

lol, if its the tranny, it feels totally different...kinda hard to explain.

Either way, it sounds very similar to what my car was doing, so hopefully it'll be a good fix for you too

Just a tip, you might already know this. The easiest way to spot arcing is to park the car somewhere really dark at night, like an unlit parking lot or something, pop the hood with the car idling and have a look, have someone with you to rev the engine as well, you'll be able see any sparks easily.

You're looking everywhere from the Coil packs, all the way along the plug wires, to the plugs themselves.

Also, no idea your mods, but if you've got the stock catalytic converter, that could also be it...
