ok so i recently bought a led scanner and the directions say to have it on with the key off (3 wires red, black, white)
    Red: constant power (+)
    Black: constant power (-)
White: connect to (-) of something that is on when the ignition is turned off.

red and black on the scanner will go to constats and then the white goes to a relay.

so what im thinking is to wire up the relay into my radio and have it wired like this:
    30: ground
    85: wire from radio +
    86: wire from radio -
    87: not used
87a: white signal wire from scanner.

so then if i wired it like so then whenever there is power going to my radio (wheneve the key is on) the scanner will be off and the relay will be switched on so that the contacts are going to the 87 terminal an then when its off (when the key is off) the contacts close the circuit between 30 and 87a and the scanner is on.

does this sound good? is there an easier way or anyother ideas?
