    3.4 pulley and supporting mods

Just recently, expecially on cold morning startups my supercharger has got this growly whine-not the good kind. Kinda sounds like when your power steering pump is going. I probably need a new coupler eventually, but i dont think this is the problem. Its getting worse, i checked the supercharger oil and its a bit low. Could it be my bearings going out or what. Please help, im thinking about pulling the belt off till if fix the problem. Damn, no boost is going to kill me

    THANKS

its not my intake, its a whine coming from supercharger. No scraping or clanking. I know what a bad coupler sounds like and the whine is louder than my intake now. You would think whine would be good, but this is so not good sounding.

    Does it sound like this?

    YouTube - Weird engine noise.

That's mine.. I think the Needle bearings in the S/C are bad. Found out when I got the car that the oil has never been changed.

No, that sounds more grinding in nature. Mine is more like a louder whine, really obnoxious like power steering goin bad coming from supercharger.

Does it sound more like this???

    YouTube - scream of death?

Thats the noise i recently just started getting and its a once i a while thing. Ive been searching and reading all over the place and many are saying it could be a blocked PCV Valve or something but definitely pcv related.

Well first step is to take the blower belt off and see if it goes away.

If people say it could be the PCV then take the valve out and shake it. If it rattles its prolly good.

I recently had this issue and thought it was a million other things before I bought a new PCV valve or if you installed a VC breather...my noise went away.

Did you replace the supercharger belt when you replaced the pulley?

    667 - GTP/GS/SS supercharged with stock 3.8" pulley (67 1/4" -1708mm)
    658 - GTP/GS/SS supercharged with 3.2 - 3.5" pulley (66 3/8" - 1687mm)

    difference in length ( 7/8" - 21mm )

With an old belt, the extra slack + reduced contact on the s/c pulley the belt could easily be slipping on cold startup. Just want to confirm it is not the belt before throwing money at the snout.

(I have a newer oem belt on a 3.5" and it will occationally squeak at startup.)

The belt is new as of two months ago.Its a Gates belt. The pulley is stock and I have not replaced the pulley.I did change the oil in the blower as soon as this noise began and yes there was oil in it.Smells horrible, new or old.Dont get any on you,it stays with you all day. If rebuilding the snout is possible myself does anyone have a source for the parts?I do have a press and a fair amount of ability But my alldata just covers blower replacement not rebuild.
