locate the actuator you're questioning and operate the HVAC controls to see if the moving portion spins. If you can access one of them, take the actuator from another location in the car and swap them out to see if the problem goes away. Two are pretty easy to access - one on each side of the console up under the dash.
99% of the time the plastic gear in the actuator cracks and that makes the motor driving it slip. I'd bet toward the actuator, once you get to them though...you can actuate the door manually to ensure it's not broken.
^that might answer my question, but I was wondering if the symptoms would be any different.
It's most likely the motor if the door isn't operating. It's a quick check, really. Remove the panel above your feet on the driver side to access the underside of the dash. Look for the motor, turn the key on and operate the HVAC controls for the door and watch the motor to see if the gear is turning. If not, then take the motor out and try to operate the door manually. You're probably looking at 20-30 minutes if you've never gotten up there before. Maybe 5-10 minutes if you have. It's not a bad job.
I have a 97 grand prix gt non supercharged
and the actuator on the passenger side is bad...I think doesnt turn
so I took it out and unhooked the drivers side actuator and plugged the passenger one in and it didnt move so Im guessing the passenger one is bad
not sure about the controls though..hope the passenger temp control is working
I found different numbers on the pass vs the drivers actuator
the drivers # is G3071683B the pass # is G307272A
Hope they are interchangable
someone on ebay said the are
they sell alot of pontiac parts this one is 54.99 no tax and free shipping
most places that I checked are 125.00 to 250.00 new
I can't seem to be able to get the bolts of of the metal piece that was behind the knee bolster. Anybody know what size socket will work?
metric system strikes again. I only have sockets in inches. But I was still able to access it without needing to take out the piece. Ran out of daylight, but I will try another crack at when time allows.
what do these look like and where exactly am i looking. i have hot air out of drivers side and cold out of passenger both are set on 60 degrees
