ok i have never posted on a thread before so please bear with me.

I have a 2000 grand prix 3.8, i let my brother use it and one day while he was driving it shut off. we couldnt get it to start back up so we towed it back to the house. it sat for about a month and my boyfriend decided to take a look at it. he changed the fuel filter and it ran for almost a week then it wouldnt start so we replace the fuel filter again and it work for about 12 hours then cut off on me again while i was driving. decided to change the fuel pump but other projects got in front of it so it sat for 5 months. now we need it running and cant get it to.

we have replaced the pump and it would run for 5 secs then die. so then we replaced the crank position sensor and it would idle but die when you pushed the gas then it just wouldnt idle. it turns over but wont stay running. we unplugged the MAF to see what would happen but it made no diffrence.

can someone please help me out here. im ready to run it over with my boyfriends XJ!

if you unplugged the maf and it made no differences then im pretty sure that the maf is bad.

EDIT: i guess i was wrong.

theres so many possiblilties, is it throwing any codes?

ICM, bad coil pack, alternator, vacuum leak, TPS? some1 start ruling these out

only code scanner i have access to wont read the codes and havent had a chance to find another one.

my B/F thinks it might be the ignition control module

it tested just fine. the TPS is fine too. guy at the parts store say we should try takin the battery off for about 30 mins and let the computer reset. we can crank it and it will idle but if you give it a little gas it cuts off or if you put it in to gear it cuts off. if you rev it up it will run ruff and you can bring it back down to idle but like i said a lil and it dies. whats next in the list of to try. i have ran out of ideas and so has he.

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge?
Also have you tried taking out the fuel in the tank and replace it with fresh fuel?

we emptied the tank when we replaced the fuel pump. going to get more gas now. and we checked the pressure before we replaced the fuel pump and i was fine just replaced the pump because it seemed to be what needed to be done.

ok. when we went to leave to go get more gas i decided to hook the battery back up and give it a try and it runs fine now.

now we got to get the blower motor on the ac/heat to work again and replace the regulator on the driverside window andit will be perfect. lol for me anyways.

    thanks for the help guys.
