What I know so are these cars equipt with OBDI, that means that its possible to
scan the codes and look at a lots of sensor and stuff with a interface and a computer. The problem is that I can´t find a software that can read my 1989 GP SE with 3.1 motor. Where can I find information about that?
I know that its possible to get the codes via the engine light but I´m a NERD so
if its possible to check things up via a laptop so than I want that.

    The second question is:
I love to FIX things, not just CHANGE so is it possible to change the rear bearing in the hub without need to change the whole hub, IN Sweden it´s costs around
300-500$ per side, just the HUB?

    Best regards
    Acke

Holy moo moo, thats quite the expense for the hubs. I believe they are sealed bearings, so I am not sure that you will be able to do what you seek to do.

I owned an '89 GP SE and one of my front bearings went out and I worked in a machine shop at the time I owned it and I pressed that bearing out and tried replacing it. I think it lasted all of two weeks. Why that was I never took the time to try and figure out. It was just easier to replace the thing.

But for what it is worth, I share your sentiment in wanting to fix things instead of just changing them out. However, with regards to the bearings, Im not sure there is a satisfactory alternative. If you find one, please let us know as it would most likely be applicable to current GP models.

I dont know of any ODB I scan tools. Im sure they are out there. I had an Actron Scan tool when I owned my '89 and it was able to read quite a bit. However, for code retrieval, as you mentioned you can get them via the check engine light. But I do not know of any laptop based ODB I software. If its out there Im sure someone will step in and let you know.

Okey.. I try to se what I can do with the hubs, yes they are expensive but worth it beacuse its quite noisee..

I didnt know that there is a Actron Scantool witch I suppose it´s handhold?
I sweden its often cheaper to buy a Interface to a laptop rather than a handhold piece.. But if its the only solution than it´s going to be..

Can you tell me what exacly type or name of the actron scantool that works with my car? And what could you do with it? Retrive the fault codes of engine? ABS? Transmission? Is it possible to se any data( Sensors and values)?

I founded a new fault to day on the way home in the dark, every time i push the brake padel the highbeam light lose some power. It´s more like the battery maybe or generator doesnt deliver enoghe power or ???

    Best regards
