My dad and I went and bought my 1999 Grand Prix GT today. We drove it two weeks ago and it ran okay [given that the intake gasket is bad]. It had slight trouble cranking the last time. We went to crank it this time and it will not crank for the life of it. It sounds JUST like it has jumped time. It ALMOST hits but it doesn't and it has the slight backfire. We checked every fuse, we checked the fuel pump, we checked the firing of the plugs, everything. Nothing is helping. Is it possible it could have jumped time??
Also, we did not have the keyfob. We had the key only. So is it possible that the anti-theft system could be causing it not to crank? Any info. on how the anti-theft system works will help.
My dad is going to replace the intake gasket as well as check the timing. So is there a diagram/model/instructions for the timing? I want something I can print out so that he does it right.
He just wanted me to check about the anti-theft system and how it works.
And I want something as far as the timing so he can get it right [if that's the issue]. Any other troubleshooting ideas are GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks, Brandon
