drive a beater 95 grand prix le with the 3100. nothing special but it gets good gas mileage and gets me back and forth to work. for now, it starting to act up.

what it will do is bog down and basically wont let the engine rev past 2500 rpm, it will gradually climb. then once it hits 3000 rpm it will accelerate, shift then bog down again. it resonates real loud in the cabin when this is happening which leads me to think the cats are getting plugged up.?. they are original afterall, however, the problem is only intermittent and isnt throwing any codes. there is a ticking coming from the rear head but i havent had the time or money to really pop the valve cover and investigate, some days it worse then others.

also sometimes when it starts to act up, i can floor it and it will hesitate at lower rpms but it doesnt bog down as much. i just did a tune up on it during one of the nicer days this winter and everything is within specs. i need to pull the plugs and check them but with a new baby, time is scarce. its our daily commuter since it gets better mileage then the durango which requires premium (dumb idea from chrysler but whatever). any ideas on where to start? if the cats are in fact plugged they will glow red hot correct? ill have to leave the car running for a bit and check em out.

thanks in advance
