I have a 1997 Grand Prix GTP. 3.8 S/C My car sometimes starts fine then other times I hit the key and the starter engages but does not turn the motor over? It seems like it starts normaly when the cars hot. Sometimes

    Yes the Battery is fine.

I would check batter cable first. But what you describe sounds like worn brushes in the starter which is 99.9% of the time that goes bad.

Is there a way to do a rebuild on the starter?

Indeed there is. How to Rebuild a Starter | eHow.com

I have rebuilt alternators before, but no starters. Not too hard though.

    x2

I've revived a bunch of motors using this same method.

After i had my trans replaced, my car was doing the same thing. Turns out the starter wiring connector was corroded.
