Evening! I'm stumped and looking to the gurus for help! My blower motor began working and not working (regardless of the speed setting) about six months ago. After researching the problem, I took it to the Pontiac dealer and they installed a capacitor per TSB 05-01-39-001A. This fixed the problem up until two weeks ago when the same condition began to occur.

Please note that it happens "randomly" but ONLY upon start up. For example, if there is no air blowing when I start the car (whether the blower is set on 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5) and it comes on in 5-7 minutes, it will stay on for the entire time I'm driving and I have full control of all speeds. I have tried turning all of the climate controls to off prior to shutting off the car to no avail. In addition, it does not matter if the control setting is on a/c, defrost, vent, etc.

In fact, there appears to be no rhyme or reason to when it may work or not work. As an outside sales guy in Arizona, it normally chooses to quit working when a client sits down in the passenger seat.....

I replaced the blower motor resistor ( I know.......shotgun troubleshooting!) and it made no difference to the frequency of it happening. I've checked the resistance of the capacitor that was installed by the dealer and it appears to be working correctly. I'm baffled and frustrated by this and was hoping somebody, someplace at sometime has had the same issue and can offer some guidance on fixing (local guys or gals get a free beer/soda, while out of state helpers will benefit from good karma/juju).

this sounds like your ignition switch relay is going bad. it controls the accesories in the car. it has contacts that get worn with age. i have a cheap fix for it...

also, when the relay starts going it is usually the heavy draw accesories that trigger it first. when it get's worse the lighter draw accesories will start getting the internittent treatment...

you can also try wiggling your knob that controls the blower speeds. sometimes that's intermittent as well. i would try that first...

i was having the same issue as you and it turned out to be a bad blower motor. i figured this out by testing the 2 wires going to it for voltage when it wasnt working. there was voltage.
