i got all new stuff, and it wasn't quite...$60, but it was only $20 more than what it would have cost to replace all the parts on the stock 11" brakes. I got my brackets from an 03 Impala cop car. However, I've noticed that regular impalas have the 12" brakes.
...i have a few, but it's a pain for me to get pics posted. I don't have a pic of just the bracket, just the difference in size of the rotors and the clearance of the wheel after they've been installed... it's quite close!![]()
if you can get to clubgp. ( I guess some on here are banned from there)... it came up on a googlel search, and has good photos.. and instructions. ClubGP: Grand Prix 12" Brake Upgrade (1997-2000)
the impalas use the same rear rotors that we use... so it should be just fine.![]()
well, I just went ahead and got a photo bucket account.
here ya go. Sorry if you can't see well. All shots are with my phone.

ummm yeah, just a bit.
... actually, it was a HUGE improvement. I can now activate ABS just by stopping hard. (good thing, which means the tires have reached the capability to stop the car and ABS needs to control the wheel from locking up). The ABS activation does not show up under normal braking though, which is good. I'd say the brakes are very well balanced and I don't feel unsafe by having "too much" braking power in the front.
Although, I did go from the cheapest pad available for $20 (thanks dealership) to the EBC green stuff pads at the same times as the rotors. I know that changing the pad would have made a difference all by itself, just not sure how much.
If you need rotors, get the 12" rotors and brackets, it's well worth the couple extra bucks you would be spending on the 11" rotors. If you really wanted to, you could just try getting a better pad for now and see if you want something better. *shrug* ...just a random thought though.... only if you are trying to save money....
First off... dont quote pictures....
Second, If you have good pads, you can activate ABS easily. Its the tires you need to be concerned with.
Third, EBC green is for cars at 200 HP or lower apparently.... Should have went with the red stuff.
Finally.... Rear brake upgrade = rear GXP/ impala SS brakes.
eh, I'm really happy with it.![]()
I think you are following me around Matt...
I was about to say... WHO ARE YOU? AND WHY DO YOU KEEP POSTING EVERYWHERE?
but it just seems like you post in threads i find just as interesting.
looks good! welcome to the 12" brake club![]()
Yeah, the wheel clearance is gonna be tight....but as long as it fits, it'll work.
If you get a flat, and your spare doesn't fit, just use a wheel from the back and put it on the front. Then put the spare on the rear wheel. (you don't want to put a spare tire on the drive wheel anyway).
