Thread: Fuel Line O rings

Turned my ignition on without starting the car and smelled gas. Popped the hood and saw a little gas under one of the fuel lines that go over the SC where there is some kind of union. I checked it a few more times and it hasn't leaked again, but I wanted to know...is there an O ring in there that can be replaced? Do the fuel lines pull apart at that union?

Yes, there are two o-rings in each one that can be replaced. You need a special fuel line tool to separate the coupling. There is a write up on here somewhere showing how it is done.

^^^What? What? The O-ring can be replaced? That isn't what GM told me when they had me pay $166 for a brand new fuel line to stop my leak. But to take out the O-rings you have to take out the metal quick lock, & that thing is easily broken. So be careful or you'll be buying a new fuel line like I had to.

why the fukk would you get a new fuel rail just go to a junkyard....

A fuel line is a part I would not buy used.

Could be damaged, rusted, leaky. It may seem stupid to some ppl to waste money on a new fuel line, but it just seemed smarter than buying a used one at the time.

if its engine related i always buy new.

now it was a Seat or plastic panel i would buy used

I did a write up for my GT. Follow the same part number and process as I did, except you need a special removal too for the lines. The o-rings are the same part number and size as the ones I changed in my GT, the connector just looks different.


My o-rings were BAD. And part of my fuel line is burned. I think it caught fire once before I bought my car.

There are NO problems what-so-ever with using a used fuel rail, but that doesn't have ANYTHING to do with his problem. The problem is the o-ring inside the quick-connect.

I think there is some confusion in this thread. When SDGTP99's fuel line was replaced I bet they only replaced the plastic line that goes from teh hardline under the brake booster to the fuel rail. You can't buy them used because they get destroyed when getting removed.

If you still need the o-rings when I get home from vacation at the end of next week I'll put a couple in an envelope for you, but you might not want to wait that long.
