Hello. I dont post here often but I just have to see if anyone else has encountered this.

I took my 2006 to a reputable tint shop for my area. I left the car with the guy for about 7 hours. Later I met up with him at the shop and the car was done.. looked good too.. But he showed me my back window and explained that due to the fact that the top 6 inches or so is coated with ceramic (black lines) he could not apply tint to that area.

I payed total of $175. for the job.. was this guy just being lazy? Or is he correct? if so, how do I complete the black tint look where he stopped.. are there other methods.. to get the full black window? ... maybe a stick on from out side... Im kinda baffled??? If your Tint guy completed the back window and your tint is staying on please post a picture so that I may print them off and show them to this guy.

    Thanks.
Please dont answer if your not sure what the difference is between the 04 and above rear window vs 03 and below.

they can do the whole window, but chances are if anything is going to peel or bubble, itll be that area.

    Thanks all.
I will talk to the guy. if not anything else I wouldnt mind if he just cut a separate piece for that section so that if it does have problems it wont effect the rest of the window to repair. Also all of the little dots around the window does not seem to be on properly. I have found that by running my finger on them they seem to be correcting them self pretty good but its tough to get at that bottom of rear window.

i believe it is a separate piece, but yeah it's tinted. also, it doesn't seal on top of those dots. trust me, it looks like **** on mine too.

Well I talked to the guy and he is willing to try and do a strip against his 22 years experience.
I have read many ways of effectively tinting these areas including the dot matrix areas. There is a glue that can be used in the place of soap water around edges that works for the dots, or you can have the tint stop at the first set of dots and paint the dots and or lines with flat or satin finish black spray paint. I am not willing to paint inside of my car, but if the window was removed I could see myself taping the areas off to use paint.
The guy I am using said he has an etching solution to use on the lines but that he thinks it will not work well as I want either.

If I knew the steps to remove back glass and had the tools I would say that would be best way to fix with paint. My dot matrix on windshield top tint sealed perfectly.

Yeah the black dots will always be like that...But on a really hot day go back there a rub your finger on them and it will get rid of most of those. For the top part, i have never heard of someone not tinting that part, his 22 yr experience must not be real

If your antenna is integrated into the window, which is usually is for vehicles and located in the upper portion of the rear window, then some people will not use tint to cover the window and antenna. The good tint jobs use a metallic-based tint to keep from fading and turning color from too much sun. Cheap tint jobs use a dye-based tint which will eventually fade and turn (usually purple) from the sun. The metallic-based tint can interfere with the antenna and radio reception. I had my windows tinted with the metallic-based tint but the people used the dye-based tint to cover the area of the antenna. You can see some fading of the color from the dye-based tint over the years but it is not noticeable from the outside. Hope this helps.

I had mine done, but instead i put black vinyl on the top part where the lines are, it looks great and you cant tell the difference from the out or inside, and you wont have to worry about the peeling because of the DOT matrix lines. I hope this helps out
