If it doesent have a screw showing, then it should have a little tab on the bottom, right next to the windshield.

Yeah, I have the same issue. i can't seem to get it off. the little tab is really little and no amount of force will pop the mirror and cover off. i just want to remove the mirror but leave the base so I can install a cheap after market mirror (old school one) over the base. don't want to have to remove the glued on factory mirror base!

Any help, videos, photos of how to do this?

    Thanks!

It slides up toward the roof of the car. Takes some force. May try tapping it with a rubber malet to shock it loose.

Hmm, seems pretty stuck to me. And pounding the mirror on the windshield sounds like disaster for a ham fisted klutz like me. I'll try but if I break the glass, the insurance company's gonna nail me...

Thanks but I'll keep you posted on my progress.... or disaster!

You're not going to just rip/pry the mirror off the mounting button/base. You will need a small flat head screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver into the little slot opening on the bottom of the mirror mounting bracket till it's jammed between the tab and the mounting bracket, and gently tap at it with the rubber mallet. It shouldn't take much force at all with the rubber mallet if you've placed the head of the screwdriver where it needs to be. I'm pretty sure there's a special tool out there for them, but other than that, there's really no other way to remove the modern mirrors than the technique described. I wish they would have just stuck to the old torx screws.

Okay, good news/bad news.. It was virtually impenetrable! No force could remove it nicely. It was wedged in- maybe that special tool would have worked. Too late now. the whole thing is off, including the base and the special sticky tape they use.
So, now how do I mount the new mirror on? What sort of glue or tape should I use to secure it to the glass?

Gorilla Glue? Super glue? Duct tape? Help!

i just did this the other day on my fairmont.. most auto parts stores sell a special glue kit specifically designed for rear view mirrors. its 2 different things, like an epoxy, designed for metal/windshiled bonding. it costed $2.99

ive used crazy glue in the past, it seems to work as good as the special mirror glue they sell, just razor blade the windshield clean and the metal part you are gluing on, and then clean with rubbing alcohol, put glue on the metal part, and press where you want it to live, hold it for a few minutes, let it set up, over night at least. don't try to put the mirror right back on, it will fall off.

and watch out you don't put it on upside down, been there done that, one time lol
