Is it the egr pipe that goes bad and has to be replaced or is it the plastic housing around it? Can someone tell me what parts I need besides gaskets to fix this problem. I do not believe it is the head gaskets but rather lack of knowledge that has prolonged my misery.

How is the pressure in the coolant hose when you start it cold? I'm assuming the smoke smells sweetish?

When you did the lim gasket job, did you find a lot of coolant in the intake manifold? When the intake manifold melts around the EGR inlet it lets coolant pour into your intake manifold and go into the engine. I know somebody with a buick that took the time to rip everything apart and change the head gaskets only to find it was still burning coolant. Turned out to be the intake manifold had melted around the EGR inlet. If that is the problem go to rockauto.com and get the Dorman replacement upper intake manifold. It comes with all the gaskets to do the job and is only about $80. It is very common on the 3.8 to have this happen.

2002 GTP: GMPP Sway Bars, BMR trailing arms, KYB AGX/Vogtlands, 12" brake upgrade
    Modified SSAC headers, K&N Intake, 3.4 MPS, S1X, Gen V, 104's, HPTuned.

OK, sounds like upper intake manifold, which was not replaced, the car ran fine after we changed LIM UIM gaskets got all H20 out then ran it, white smoke increase. I shut it down did not get hot hopefully the engine did not suffer internal damage. Oil is free of coolant. Coolant low as it has pored into the engine so now I will clear out the coolant again, clean plugs, replace intake manifold. thanks for info.
