My sons window switch has gone bad. Is there a way to roll up the window w/o the switch? It a 2 door and the drivers side window.

I'd imagine that pulling the switch and shorting the pins with a paper clip would make it go up. Need to figure out which pins, though...

If it's like the Impala/Monte switches, you could take it apart and turn the contacts around. That way you have fresh metal to work with and the switch should work for a while after that.

The connections to the switch didn't operate as I expected. I even pulled out my Fluke meter and checked the wiring. I did find out the dark blue wire needs source voltage applied to it for the window to roll up. Hopefully there will be enough time this evening to give it a try.

Hope this helps, bud. Looks like you'll short pins A and F.

ok I'm going to try to explain this as best as I can but if you press up and down on the clear plastic rockers and look you'll see that it triggers these copper pins to roll the window up and down. Looking at the switch from the drivers view, push down on the copper pin with a paper clip on the bottom left corner outside of the rocker CAREFULLY or else sparks will start flying, and that should do the trick. Here's the write up for the window switch fix:
    http://www.grandprixforums.net/window.php
This worked perfectly and fixes the issue. I just cleaned up all the contacts and switched out the white pieces with one of the rear windows and everything works perfect!

Is that the Impala one? I'm somewhat sure that's not the layout on my son's GTP.

Thanks to both of you guys.

I ordered a new set of switches from Pace earlier. His switch has lost the click and feel that the other switches have, so I believe it's not dirty contacts causing the problem. I did see the write-up but the pictures were blurry and some of the details that I needed were missing. A great write-up though.

AlmightyBirdman, your info should be added to the write-up...thanks, that was what I was looking for.

No problem, glad it worked. That's how I had to roll up my window for over a year before I saw that write up lol.

I pulled the information for mine right out of the GM SI service manual. You didn't post the year of your son's GTP, so I had to guess and went with 2001. I don't know if there were differences over the years.

It might've been the fact that your son's is a two-door and the connector I found was one of two for a four-door switch.

ahh I see, but yeah it should work, just be careful the paper clip doesn't slip or else it will spark. It doesn't short anything it but it stings your hand a little

Thanks again guys. The writeup worked like a charm. Even the switch with the worn down tip works. We will just hold on to the new one until the "repaired" switch dies again.

fwiw, after looking at the switch up close I can see why pushing on the lower left corner should raise the window, however, I couldn't get it to work. To me it looks like you would have to push up on the rocker so the upper right corner breaks contact like it does during normal operation while using the paper clip method on the lower left. It's either that or the lower left contact was so dirty, it wasn't making a good electrical connection. IDK.

However thanks again guys everything was good info.

Good to know you got it fixed, sorry that that little trick didn't work, but at least you got the switch fixed up!

If you ever need a replacement part, you might want to check with Ed Morad first. He'll definitely be cheaper than a parts store and usually ships the same day.
