well my fuel gauge hasnt worked since i bought my car about a year ago, so i figured its time to stop modding and start fixing.
there is already a new complete fuel pump installed and the wiring shows no resistance from the pump to the passenger kickpanel. however there is resistance from the kickpanel to the back of the gauge. does anyone know the wiring behind the dash? or any ideas? the gauge always reads full btw.
    thanks for any input

A new fuel pump means nothing. The sending unit/float that clips to the fuel pump died and needs to be swapped out. It simply clips to the side of the pump assembly.

A new sending unit is around $90 at gmpartsdirect.com, and I installed mine in about 1/2 hour.

I'll see if I can find that in my gm service manual, if I find a diagram I'll post a scan of it.

^^I realize a stock L36 is not as fast as the sticker implies, but this sticker has worked and it is still a hell of a lot of fun to drive considering it's a grocery sedan.

There should be resistance to the gauge because the sending unit is basically a rheostat that changes the resistance sent to the needle as the fuel level changes. Myself if it's not a loose wire I believe it's the sending unit but I'll send you the problem diagnosis, gauge cluster wiring diagram and sending unit replacement anyway.

The pdf files are too big for the forum so pm me your email or drop me a line at nault31@gmail.com
