I have a 2004 pontiac Grand Prix GT2 4DR and for the past 2 years I have this problem very randomly:

-Speedometer, temperature, gas gauges stop working (tach is the only one that works)
-'low gas' and 'trac control disabled' messages appear on message display
-door locks don't unlock when car is put into park
Note: the car still drives fine when this happens, it doesn't shut off or anything.

As I said before, this happens so randomly, I might be driving 50 miles or 2 miles and it will happen. And It only happens every few weeks or months. When I restart the car after 10 minutes the symptoms go away until it randomly happens another day.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

friend has a 2004 with the same problem.

    Does your HVAC work?
Do you have an aftermarket radio?

Well, anyways his gauge problem started after he put a new HU in with the proper kit to all that may ask, even ran the new relay for power.

We traced his HVAC problem to an error in the body control module, (blower motor, resistor, and hvac unit have either been replaced or tested) BCM codes came from a Genisys evo scanner.

We are not sure yet if the BCM is related to his gauges yet or not. Havnt had the time to diagnose further,

I know that this is not an answer to your question, but I thought I would ask and share info.

I have the factory head unit, but I have an AUX ipod connector hooked up in the back. As far as the HVAC, it does work, but a few months ago there was about an inch of water in my passenger floor, and the rubber seal that prevents water from entering the HVAC motor had fallen off. I guess there is a new part for this, so I wonder if water had been getting into the HVAC motor for a while?

I had a slightly different and more extreme problem with my 2002 Regal LS.

One day while kroozin abut 70 down the interstate, the tach and speedo spun around like a plane's compass in the Bermuda Triangle. Then everything set back to zero, 0, nada.

I pulled over, shut it off, and checked under the hood for dead vermin or possibly the famous sulfur smell of satan.
    Nothing.

Restarted and everything remained DOA, but the car drove fine.
Dealer said dash had to be replaced, which he did to the tune of around 500 bucks. This was around 2004-05.

    Well, that fixed it.

It was covered under the GM Certified used 39/39 warranty, but the hassles the dealer ran me through on that is another story entirely.
