Well they tried to create a class action lawsuit over dexcool when it clearly says all over the vehicle, "DEXCOOL ONLY".

Got 130,000 on my LIM gasket and it is still fine. At some point it will go bad but it is 10 years old and has 130K on it, nothing lasts forever...

I know the 3400 engines had big issues with gaskets too, but most blew under warranty and GM fixed them.

On our 3800's years ago, when the UIM gasket & intake would go under warranty, dealers were putting on new intakes and gaskets, the same kind that failed.

Finally GM issued a TSB that said to replace the lower intake manifold and the upper because the lower had too large of an EGR tube, and cracked the upper. I have a dated copy of this TSB, the date is from 2007. I also know the aftermarket strengthened the UIM ERG plastic wall, that is what I put on my car when I got it, not cause it neded it, it ran just fine, but I did not want a failure down the road. I am hoping doing just the upper will ensure it does not fail, because the lower intake manifold is real expensive.

At any rate, I would like more info on this petition before I would sign. What exactly is it for, which intake gasket and why?

If cars are already fixed, the customer does not have the receipts from the fix, and old parts have been thrown away, what does the peition expect GM to pay for now?

In the state GM is in now, good luck having them pay for anything. Look at Ford and the Cruise Control Switch issue...

Takes me 2 hours and $75 to fix the issue w/o any chance of it returning. Or years of hope to get some money back and have GM do a recall.

I'll take the $75 lump on a nearly 12 year old car and be happy. Not one of the 10 or so 3800's I've owned were bought new.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

As part of that link I found this... It is vague in the other repairs caused by this gasket failing.

This really sounds like it is regarding the lower intake gaskets on the 3400 and 3100 engines. This is I am sure also tied to Dexcool, which Dexcool was not the issue but the gasket matial not being compatible with Dexcool.

Not saying what happened is right, but good luck on very old vehicles.

A recall is more for a safety issue, not a bad part going back to a 1999, or 2002 vehcile.

To: General Motors Corporation & The Better Business Bureau

We, the undersigned petitioners, General Motors’ customers and/or technicians who service GM products, do hereby give notice that we are more than dissatisfied with the quality of the intake manifold gasket installed in GM vehicles. As of April 10, 2002, there is a nationwide backorder of the intake manifold gasket. At this time, is it not even known when the part will become available. Being aware of this proves there is a serious problem to be addressed. Because of apparent poor engineering, GM can not manufacture replacements fast enough for all the vehicles in which they are needed.

Intake manifold leaks can lead to any number of very serious, and expensive, problems. While the part itself isn’t costly, the labor to repair it is very intensive, and has been quoted around $800 USD (give or take a couple hundred depending on the vehicle). This is in addition to any other costly problem(s) the intake manifold gasket leak may have produced.

We are demanding accountability from General Motors. A nationwide backorder should be reason enough for GM to assemble a recall. We can only hope that “the world's largest vehicle manufacturer” who “has been the world's automotive sales leader since 1931” will stand up and claim responsibility for a problem that is so prevalent among their vehicles. Recalls should be mandated in all cases of incompetence, not solely when it affects public safety.

While some of us have been “fortunate” enough to have this problem occur within our warranty, there are many others of us that have had to pay for these expensive repairs just after the warranty expires. Because GM has refused to admit liability on this issue, we feel that this will be a repetitive problem. Once this gasket has been replaced, and customers’ pockets drained, GM Service Centers everywhere can expect to see consumers returning, for this same problem that hasn't been rectified due to a designing flaw on GM's part. This error should have been corrected, not the first time in for service, but before entering mass production in millions of vehicles.

Can one presume this is one way of keeping General Motors’ patrons coming back time after time? Sincerely,

Basically... GM was given bad gaskets because they like to change parts suppliers to keep costs down and got bad LIM gaskets.

He is not spamming, but yes he is deeply out of the know in regards to there already being a recall on the car. More than likely he didnt purchase his Pontiac from a Pontiac dealer and might have been automatically submitted for the recall notification.

    That is just my guess......

I am going to move this to the tech section, not sure what else to do with it........Deleting I could do, but its not "spam" worthy enough.

Ask for a LIM gasket for an 04-08 if they don't have a metal one for your car.

Yeah It seems most of these guys are DIY people, but a lot of folks aren't. I pretty much just posted this for those who dont want to pay 4-500 bucks for the labor. I did mine myself, but still signed the petition. I didn't start the petition. There is a chance to save money here, whats the worst that could happen? signatures can get a lot done.

I bought my car used, but I'm pretty much aware of my recalls because I checked for them via VIN #. & there's not a LIM gasket recall for my car even tho I had to replace mine.

hey, should we use tread locker or tread sealant on intake manifold bolts when replacing LIM gasket read info that bolts due to vibration can work themselves out of proper torq specifications and then LIM gasket can leak.

also if anyone in the atlanta has the know how i will pay and i Do the Work really just need guideance torqing the bolts down and the sequence to use

Not quite sure if you should or not, but I used thread sealant b/c there semed to be a small amount on the LIM and Supercharger bolts when I pulled them out. I figure it probably can't hurt anything by making sure it's sealed up tight. I've got about 10,000 miles on the newer gasket, so I'm sure it helped. I put just a little dab and rubbed it around the threads.
