Take it seriously! There have been many fires due to this issue. The recall has to do with the spark plug retainers. The old retianers can hold oil, until it pools and then it dumps onto the header and ignites. It can happen many minutes after the engine is shut off too.

Honestly, it was done to my car before I bought it at 130K miles and if you have re-routed your plug wires with new retainers, you may be fine. Is this what you mean?

If so, DO NOT quote me on this, as I am not an expert.

No, the new retainers would not mess, or change aything for your mods.

Accoridng to the recall, yes... Once the recall is fixed, I am sure the dealer would want to do the cover gasket next at your expense though, if it is bad.

1997-2003 Buick Regal and Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles equipped with a 3.8L supercharged V-6 engine. Engine oil can leak from the valve cover and can migrate during maneuvers such as hard braking. If the oil reaches the hot exhaust manifold, it may ignite causing an underhood fire. Until sufficient parts become available to repair all of the affected vehicles, GM strongly recommends that owners observe the following important precautions: (1) they strongly recommend that owners do not park their vehicle in a garage, car port, or other structure; (2) if owners notice a burning odor, they should have their dealer inspect the vehicle. The dealer will inspect the vehicle without charge; (3) use premium fuel (91 octane or higher) in the vehicle as recommended in the vehicle's owner manual. Owners may contact Buick at 1-866-608-8080 or Pontiac at 1-800-620-7668. This recall was the subject of an Engineering Analysis, EA07-008, conducted by the Office of Defects Investigation. 08V118

toolguy wrong. gm dealers actually have the front valve cover gasket setup as part of the recall repair on the engine fire. i just took my 99 gtp last week to have the retainers and the front vc done for free.

X2, called my local dealership to check if my car had been serviced. In May apparently.

Theres also a coolant leak recall out that will have the throttle body resealed if it was explained to me correctly.
