The rear speakers don't work in my 2000 grandprix. Any idea what could be wrong?

Wouldn't consider this a "tech" question, but most likely blew. The stock speakers (Bose or not) are junk

Connection could be loose as well. Both very possible.

The speakers themselves die. Mine did in my 01, and I just plugged in some Infinity Kappas, and now it sounds 100 times better than stock.

I would say 99% chance they are blown. I replaced my rear deck speakers this summer with some nice Kenwoods. Just removing the old speakers broke one, the stock speakers are build so cheap I couldn’t believe it. Most likely one blew and you didn’t notice until the other one blew.

Ten years of continuous driving excitement and counting!

So true. The stock speakers look like something you'd find at the dollar store.

Thanks guys... I'll try buying new ones...

Are there any aftermarket radios that I could install on my GP and still be able to use the controls on the steering wheel?

Nope, what you have to do is wire in a PAC unit to keep the steering controls

I don't know what a PAC unit is...

Do most of you that put new speakers leave the stock head unit?
What are the sizes of the speakers that are currently in the car?

I think the rears are 6x9.. What are the fronts? Asnd what about the twqeeters on the dash board? do you replace those?

Tweets are actually on the doors but those you can replace with anything you'd like really. Not too many different tweeter sizes if you're talking dome tweeters.

Front doors are 5.25" but you can easily squeeze 6.5"s in there. You'll get a little more bass, but the doors will probably rattle to hell if you decide to get an aftermarket amp.

Stick with the stock deck and just replace the speakers for now. If you like it, leave it.

cool.. thanks.. I found some speakers at Walmart. Sony speakers. I'm sure they will be better then whats was in there.. They had good reviews on the web.

I'll leave the stock radio, but I burned a CD and it wouldn't play.. I'll have to try again. I wouldn't mind a CD player that plays MP3's..

Are there any radios I can upgrade to that have that stock look?

Nope, even the most basic aftermarket deck looks many times flashier than the stock unit.

Speakers are definitely blown. Had this problem myself. If you do go with an aftermarket radio consider this mount for it. HUmount.com

I personally have it and love it. Mine lights up red behind the Grand Prix GTP part of the deck mounting plate.

Remove the rear seat by removing the 2 bolts down between the coushins near the belt buckles, 2 tabs in the front of the bottom coushin, then 2 10mm bolts and pull up and out to remove the seatback. Pull the 2 plastic retainer clips out with a claw hammer. Pull off the cover, then remove the speakers, unplug them from the trunk, use the speaker adapters from best buy, clip them in, bolt down the new speakers, put the deck cover back on, and replace the seat. Takes about 1/2 hour.

Those bolts don't need to come out till after the bottom cushion is off. Might make it easier to work on.

you're gonna need a really small screwdriver if i remember right, the back window doesn't help when you're trying to get the screws out. mine were replaced before though, the guy that did it was a f*cktard. broke the rubber clips on the seat and stripped two screws, like i said replaced two with philip's heads. he put some kinda putty around the middle tweeter too, it was weird. all in all, not that bad. the head unit was tricky just because of the plastic trim. i couldn't get it all the way off. and it might have not played the CD because it's a CD-RW intstead of a CD-R. older stereos have that problem reading the format. i also cut the tweeters when i replaced the front, defintely DON'T do that unless you have really good replacement door speakers. i recommend pioneer over sony. as for the back ones, did you get the $70 dollar sonys or the $140?

The car comes factory with bolts.

Putty would be to create a seal, which doesnt matter because both the 4" mid and the 6x9 are firing into the trunk.

like i said, he was a f*cktard. and it pissed me off because it took forever trying to get the screwdriver between the rear deck and the speaker. bolts would have been reallyyyyyyy nice
