I have an 06 Grand Prix Super Charged, it just started turning really hard to the left, but it still turns really easy to the right, the fluid level is good. If anybody knows where to start i would really appriceate it Thanks alot Randall

Had this problem on a 2005 grand prix, The Bolt that is on the control arm that holds the pivot assembly ( Right under the wheel bearing ) was loose, this will cause jerking, hard turning and pulls. You may also want to check alignment and check steering rack. The best test is to test the car at a stop while on and see if the same issue occurs, if it does then there is probley a problem with a the steering rack, if it does not then alignment or control arm issue is normally the culprit. Hope this helps - just past experiences.
Tierod maybe
it drove fine to walmart turned left in to a parking spot went in came out 10 min later and could not turn left, the tires are evenly worn, im thinking it is the rack, does anyone know if a 97 will work
Hmm normally if the rack was going to fail the problem would continuously occur, did you check the tie rods? if the grease is gone in the joints and are locking up when you turn then that could be causing the issue, as for a 97 im not sure but is possible since its 97 to 2003 most parts are swappable. I would try to lean more 99+ rack to be safe if a rack is needed.
I had this happen in my '97, it was the rack and was covered under a recall. It started intermittently, only after it was hot, then it eventually went out. Check with the dealer they should have the recall info.
So im going to bump this thread up before i make a new thread.
But i have a 2005 grand prix GT with similar problems as the OP. Turning left is practically impossible, very hard. Turning right, goes with ease. I checked the fluid and it was low but filled it up and tried to just turn the wheel toget some air out, let it sit overnight and went to work in the AM, turned fine (both ways), pulled into my work (about a 12min drive) tried to take a left turn and again it was impossible. Almost like froze up... Let the car sit until i was done with work about 7 hrs later i went back into the car and it wouldnt turn left again..
I recently put new tierods all 4 on and got an alignment and new tires about 2to3 months ago and never had this problem before.
Seems like where all having to do PS racks...mine should be here soon

I figured that was the culprit, but before i replace it, ive heard of the high pressure hoses on these failing alot. one way to check it is to have the car in the air/lift and have someone start the car and turn the wheel all the way one in one direction and hold it, mean while person underneath the car hold the high pressure line and see if it is throbbing or not smooth. not sure if this is 100%, but id rather replace that then the whole rack. i just replaced those F***ing tierods and yet another alignment.. did 4 or 5 alignments in 3years..
When I replaced mine I got one from orillys it has worked fine and they are a lot cheaper then the dealer. They are not that fun to change if u have access to a lift that's the. Best way to go. Good luck!
