I just bought a 2006 GP GTP. All i really want to do is throw on a few minor performance mods to give it that extra 30-40 HP so what can i do?

CAI is one, my buddy was telling me about a throttle body spacer? and what other quick easy bolt ons are there? i'm not mechanically inclined at all lol so anything that doesn't require too much work. Thanks!

I already read the safely upgrade your car. It was all very helpfull and helped me not make a stupid mistake lol. but i just want other opinions on whats quick and easy.

minor mods will not net you 30-40 horse. If you want 10 hp, maybe....you need to read the safely modding your 3800 thread in the general tech section. Basically you need a downpipe/plog or headers, a tuned pcm, intake, pulley drop and 180* t-stat, plug change....that is most of it for the 3.4 set up or so....but you arent going to net 30 or 40 horse without doing most or all of those mods...

what is your budget and what can you do yourself...cheap means different things to different people

aw that sucks. like i said i don't know much about cars, this is my first actual performance car you could say haha. but now that i have it im interested in learning more. As far as budget goes, im not exaclty into doing the whole thousands of dollars kind of thing. Maybe a few grand by the time its all said and done, but that's appearance and performance, then again im not doing it all at once either.

So what does the CAI and cheap bolt ons really do. All i hear about is how they add 10 HP here 15 there so i figured i could get 30-40 out of it lol.

no, the flow mods add 10-15 total or so, but they allow better flow, which in turn allows you to drop your pulley size and get your pcm tuned which is where the real power/speed difference comes from. But if you dont get the flow mods first, you will knock, which means that it is bad for your motor, and it will pull timing making you slower. Basically you want to run as much timing and get as much airflow as possible without getting any knock. If you dont know what any of these things are, just ask. Would you be installing this stuff yourself or not? Do you know anyone who can tune your car or not? Your exact budget depends on a lot. If you want all new stuff the 3.4 setup can be had for about800-1000 if you install yourself. Depends on exactly what you want or are willing to build. If you do everything yourself, and build yourself(the cold air intake) you could save 200 by building that about.

hmm, i have two friends who can help me install the stuff no problem, both of them are mechanics in training. And if the stuff you listed can be bought for 800-1000 then that is perfect. Now as far as the tuning part goes i don't know how to do that and im sure my friends don't know too much about it either so that could be a problem...

Edit: how difficult can that become? and whats the cost of it to have it done properly (roughly)

Custpm tune is a pain in the ass for your year. I have to use an 05 pcm and your gas gauge will read backwards then unless you find some one with efi live tuner.

so im looking on the zzp site, and they have the 2 kits. one with a few basic things. and then the second kit which has some bigger stuff to allow you go to the 3.4" pulley. it has pretty much everything you listed at the beginning liquifire.

01GTP- so your saying if i were to get that 1.0 ZZP PCM that it wouldnt work properly with my car? or are those ones already pre tuned correctly? i also read on here somewhere that someone hated the ZZP PCM and says its more harm done than good.

do not get a zzp pcm, and the cat back you do not need, as your stocker flows fine for the mods you need(it flows well up until the 350whp mark) but read the first two posts of that thread....very good info and may save you a lot of money to do it the right way and not waste money on mods you dont need. If you get a mail order tune they can be found from around $100 or so dollars, or if you buy a tuner it can cost $500...it can vary anywhere inbetween if you want a dyno tune, custom street tune, custom mail order tune, or canned mail order tune

thanks so much guys, you have been a great help! i actually learned a lot from this thread lol.

I think im going to go with pacesetter headers, CAI, 3.6 pulley, t-stat, plugs and then figure out something for the pcm. one more question though. what do you guys think is the best choice the waizard or the K&N. and how big of a difference is it really?

    I have:

    wizairds - $120 used
Downpipe with cat - $80 used
    3.4" pulley - $30 used
    PCM -$65 used
Built transmission - $400 used but pretty much brand new.

If you know where to look and pay attention you'll find great deals for the car. I don't even have $1000 into the car yet.

whoa whoa whoa, i just want to make sure he knows not to slap on a 3.4" pulley on that little bit of work. he said 06, (I'm sure he meant just a GT, not a GTP), which means he should run the 3.6
