Last night I broke down. The car was sluggish for a little bit, then finally quit altogether. I'm thinking, possibly the alternator. Its a 95 with 49,000 miles.

How did it die... Did the lights get real dim and battery die or did the engine bog out and stop running
the engine bogged out and stopped running. Every time I came to a red light, it was a little more sluggish getting going again. Then at one light, it just quit. Then the check engine light came on.
Sounds more like a fuel problem or maybe a sensor or something were your head lights still working?
ive had alts go out on me and it just drained the battery down did your volts gauge act weird or show low voltage?
could be fuel pump
The engine wouldn't turn over, the battery was dead, its a relatively new battery.
possably the alt then Id charge up the bat and get it tested
yes.........charge the battery and get both the battery and alternator tested. If you have an autozone nearby I think that they check the alternators unless you have some other place to get it checked. I would lean towards alternator, but a bad battery could also be the culprit from the symptoms that you have described.
The battery is charged again. It was the diode in the alternator. All is good now.
congrats.........glad it is fixed for you.
Thanx
