Just wondering? My white car has the original ones at 170,000 miles. Wondering if I should put in a different set before I start racing the car on slicks.........

are the stock ones the highest quality ones made for these cars or are there better aftermarket ones? Anyone know anything about the ZZP "stock upgraded" ones(I think they are thru zzp anyways....) If they go out, what are the best that you can get for them? I think I am still on stockers at 103k but I dont know for sure as I have only owned the car for less than two months........

I've heard some people say i'd by alright on stock CVs too. Guess its a gamble.

As far as I know, the best and longest lasting CV joints for these cars are the OEM GMs or SFPHQ bulletproof shafts. Pending the price difference, I may go with one or the other. I don't want unproven and unrealible stuff under my car...

I am. The boots are what the problem is. The stock GM boots are made of a softer rubber that does not crack like the aftermarket ones. If you oem boots wear and start slinging grease then just get a new GM OEM boot for 40 bucks. Buy a set of CV boot clamp pliers and install them and never have to worry about it again.

Again never heard of a CV even breaking on these cars and there are no REAL upgrades for these cars as far as those go. They may be advertised as upgraded but hat's as far as i'm going with that.

If you still have your stock ones on the car, and there is no issue with them - LEAVE THEM ALONE. Stock ones will last just fine, until the boots crack. I have not had any luck with aftermarket ones, including ZZP 'Stage I' or whatever. Those were good for about 12 months. Also, when you do need to replace one, buy one from your local part store that has a lifetime warranty. Be prepared to get good at axle replacements once your stockers finally go, but like, I said, I would hold out as long as you can.

Ummmmm, I have about 100,000 more than you, you haven't even broken 90,000 yet. Post back when you break the 170,000 mile barrier 25 years from now... LOL

I've heard that about the aftermarket ones. I've already put a couple sets of axles in my Black car, there Cardone Lifetimes, I won't be using those.

If its that bad, i'll price OEM GMs or get SFPHQ shafts, I don't want to get good at replacing CVs.....

I've had Cardone selects for almost three years. They've lasted longer than the OEMs did.

Indian, you're not going to like the price at the dealer unless you get a magical discount. I get a discount from my friend who works in parts and one passenger side axle, for a 4t65e (non HD), was almost $600. List is around $740.
