honestly I am scared to ask over at clubgp because Ive noticed lately that if you ask a question that has already been answered in the past you just get insulted and told to do a search. Hopefully it hasn't been asked too much here..

Anyways..I have a 97 w/HID's and HATE having them on all the time. I am not very mechanically inclined and would like simple instuctions. If there is involvment of cutting wires etc..I won't get into it..but if its really simple I'm gonna give it a shot

    TIA...

pull the fuse (that's all it took in my '97, but you also lose the auto headlights)

This might help some I hope:
    Headlamp Control

And if you ever get told to use search here in any type of insulting or demeaning way I want to know about it. There is nothing more I hate than being told that in the way they tell you over there. Yes, you should try and use search first, it does save some time. But also, if there are a lot of questions regarding one particular thing, if the site is worth anything it will make a sticky or post the answer to such commonly asked questions in a place that is easy to find.

The instructions do require some work with the wiring, but I thought I would post it anyway as I dont think there is any other way to do what you want to do.

OK. with the HID's i can see your issue. i dont have HIDs in my 97 and was driving me nuts, with the auto lights. The '97 model year uses a different kind of sensor at the base of the windshield to control the auto headlights. in stock form, the sensor typically does not get enough light to work properly. The fix for this, if you want to try and keep the auto headlights is this-- remove the oval shaped plate at the center of the dash, at the base of the windshield (small screw driver may help here) untwist the sensor, and remove the oval piece from the car. use a 1/4" drill bit to enlarge the hole on the top side of the plate. reassemble the sensor to the plate, and put back in the dash. the auto headlight function will now be less sensative, and act more like the later model years.

if you do want to disable the auto headlights and DRL's --

essentially two things... first, remove the access panel at the end of the dash, on the drivers side (open door) you may need to use a flashlight here, but the drl module is just inside the opening, towards the front of the car, on the outside. (so your hand would go in and to the left immediately. remove the plug there, and there is a fuse in the glove box for the auto headlamps. remove that.

(there are also mods to re-route your DRLs to the fog lights...

While the DRL and auto-headlights are both controlled by the DRL module, they are still separate and mutually exclusive features. DRLs are not on with the auto headlamps, and vice-versa. You can re-route the DRL function to other lights if you wish. You can also disable the auto headlights without affecting the DRLs. All diagrams are on my web space, and scattered all over that "other" site...
