I have a 1996 Grand Prix 3.1L V6. It is having starting issues, every now and then, quickly becoming more frequently, I will go to start my car and all the accessories will turn on but it car doesn't even try to turn over. If I wait 10-15 minutes it will most of the time start and if that doesn't work, I can hotwire it. This is really becoming and inconvenience, and the mechanic shops around here thought it was the alarm so they disabled it and it worked fine for a while but the problem is starting to pop back up. If you have any suggestions please help, I am going crazy and I just want my car to be dependable.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

When you mention you can Hotwire the car-where exactly are you doing this, right at the starter? That car should have a chip in the key and has a VATS module which will prevent cranking. There is also a range switch on top of the transmission that can cause starting problems if it is acting up. Have you tried pulling the shifter into nuetral to see if it helps?

Yeah I put the key in the ignition and I can connect a cable directly from the hot terminal to the starter. It will start right off then, but it does not make any difference when I put the car in neutral. But if i don't hotwire it and just wait a few minutes, it will usually start. This is blowing my mind

Ok so a couple of things that I have noticed over the past few days after thinking about it non stop. It may be coincidence but originally I thought there was something wrong with the driver side door lock, but sometimes when when I shut the car off it acts like it doesn't have enough power to unlock my door. The passenger door has always been fine but the drivers door may or may not unlock automatically. It can still be turned manually. Also when I attempt to hotwire the car via the starter, now the starter will just spin. Before it would start the car, but not anymore. Any Ideas?
