Okay, so I know this forum is about our Grand Prix's...however, I'm working on someone's Jeep Cherokee and have run into a stumbling block. The brake lights will not work. If you turn the lights on, the bulb will turn on as will all of the rest of the lighting. However, if you press the brake, the light does not get brighter. Also, if the lights are off and you press the brake, no light. So here is what I've done so far:
1. Changed all bulbs in the rear (had to since there was a turn signal issue as well)
2. Checked all wiring I could see. It appears to be in order, checked against service and repair manual. My theory also is if there was a wiring problem or short that the light would not work period.
3. Checked all fuses. All are good. Again, if there was a bad fuse, I assume the light would not work period.
Soooo....here's what I'm thinking now: Is it possibly the brake light switch and plunger assembly located with brake pedal. It's the only thing I can think of at this point. If that's a possibility, is there a way to test the existing switch?
Does anyone else have any other thoughts on what the problem could be?
