im thinking about making a cai for my car starting AT the maf sensor, until i get 400$ for the k&n. its going to be running to the wheel well. my problem is theres a tube coming into the air filter box. its about 1 inch thick and is right under the rad hose, and is going into the air box. i have no idea what this tube is for, or what it does and im scared to mess with it. can someone please tell me what this is, what it does, and what do i do about it please. its for a 2004 grand prix gtp comp g.

Im not buying the k&n then lol. Screw it. I'm not paying 400$ so the fender is the way to go huh. I'm in ohio, I'm worried about the snow, and water getting in there. You don't think I run a risk of getting water in there? Or it getting packed with snow? That's what I'm scared of. I can open my hood, and look over by the fender wall and there's a 1/2 inch space where I can see my tire.

Also, what is that hose that's going into the air box. Can someone please tell me what I'm supposed to do with that thing, and also what is it, and what does it do?? Please help. I'm looking to do this in the next few days. Again its a 2004 gp gtp compg.

if snow and water makes it all the way up into the top of your fender then you...are missing a fender.

Bio248, very nice car!!!! First off.
And ur right. I'm just paranoid becuz I just bought the car in december. Its certified, so I'm just scared for something to go wrong, and becuz of my little home made mods, damages aren't going to be covered. Do you know what that tube is leading into the air cleaner box is. No one seems to know what it is, or what it does. Its driving me insane. Its right on the left lower side of the box right under the rad top hose.

Tdc racing thank you!!!!!! What do I do with it? I'm going to run the tubing and filter towards the fender "in the fender" so is there something in particular that I should do with that hose?

Yep, Put a rubber grommet in the tubing and stick it back in there.

I'm taking the air filter box out, so do I just lay it in there somewhere? Just tie it down with a zip tie or something to make sure it doesn't move? That air box is gonna be otta there!

F That...you need to use bendy straws.

    jk

I say bolt a air filter to the MAF like in my car but it would hurt you more than anything since you aren't extensively modded. Just take the hose to a local auto parts store, match it with something and extend it like ^^^ said. And yeah...if all else fails and you want to BUY a premade intake...TDC's Fenderwell is the way to go man!! Or...get bent over and buy a K&N

Lol. Ok. I already told tdc im buying it!! For real. Its really clean looking so i definately want it!. This is pretty much just temporary, until i can get tdc's version. Im in the process of purchasing a home, so im going to be pretty strapped for cash for a little bit. But as soon as i get back on my feet, i will be contacting tdc!!!

Two more questions, what size pvc should i use? It looks like there might be a 2.5 inch opening for it to slide into, but im not sure. It could be three. Im just eyeballing it. Does anyone know for sure? Tdc, do you know what size pipe ill need? Also, would it help if i wrapped the pvc in heat wrap? Maybe keep it from getting too hot from the motor? Sorry guys, i know nothing about car mods, but im a fast learner.

That thing will fit a 4'' wide pipe? I know its going to be about 6-8 inches long to reach the fenderwall, but i didnt know it was 4'' wide. Ok. Im doing it from the maf sensor back. Im not running it from the throttle body. Im basically just taking the air box off, and running the piping from there.

Do you think ill get the same ''sound'' with the pvc compared to the metal one? I seen some people using exhaust tips. Doesnt seem to me like the material would make a difference in sound, but i just thought i would ask. Btw, thank you all for your help.

Bendy straws huh? LOL Good one.

USe a 4'' pipe. That's what mine is. The MAF is 3 1/4 on the o4+'s so you will need a reducer.
