It is because you get better throttle response...air has a shorter path to travel.

that is why i threw the cone right on my throttle body and called it quits. i dont even have room to make an intake anymore with my alky system there.

bio, im not trying to be a smart ass, i just want to verify before i go try this....

if i completely disconnect my stock intake and put just a cone filter on the throttle body, i will feel a gain?
    also, what about the IAT?

I'll speak from my real world findings. Going from being tuned with a fenderwell intake to having nothing but a cone off of the TB there was a significant decrease in performance that you could feel that made me never do it again.

Yeah...well the decrease in performance I had up top...I made up for that in the low end

i tried it at the track this weekend. no gain in times, i was actually a tenth off my best run of the day. after hot laping you could really tell the difference. before when i had my intake in the wizair box it was not crazy bad when hot laping, but with the short ram, i lost a few tenths and a few mphs.

hot air intakes seem like they pull harder, but going by my times this weekend it does not help anything. plus once you sit in traffic for a min then nail the gas and you cant even spin tires, you will want the other intake back.

my fender wall does not cover the tire all the way and it throws alot of dirt and rode grime around. not to mention when it rains all the water it throws in there. its not the cleanest place.

the box with the wizair work fine. the tubing sucks but i have since then fixed that. i dont have any complaints with it, i just wouldent pay the price agian for another one.

depends on your mod level. i will never tell someone to put an open cone on their stock/lightly modded car. it is a waste.

now, at my level where im running so much boost it doesnt matter for the 20* difference in temperature im going to see with an FWI. i need flow more than anything. i also have meth tapped into my blower so that helps keep intake temps down anyway.

Yeah I have 4 in stock. I was actually figuring up cost on my end to see if the pricing could go any cheaper. Let me finish and i'll get back with you.

with bio's set up, i would totally agree, filter right off the tb.

even with my pretty much stock car (stock pulley) in the winter time the short ram intake worked well, but once the temps started to pick up, it started to lose its pep.

this debate will probably go on till the end of time, i guess it really just rides on personal opions.
