All stage 3 intercoolers are going to fail at some point and time. So its probley best to get something differnt, you will have to do this now or latter.
When you stick 2 materials with different expansion property and try to seal them together you will have problems. I am sure most of them are "user install errors" It was a good idea for a product but who ever did it did not have an engineering background.
merged both of your threads since they are on the same subject.
small crack, big crack does not matter. the parts design is flawed and its just going to get worse.
Do you want to risk messing up your engine? If no then junk the ic.
I don't think they made a core of half metal/half phenolic. THe core was half made of ultem, not phenolic. All of zzps new stg 3 cores are made of all phenolic...
They say when the ultem shows signs of cracking that its just cosmetic, just keep an eye on it and if anything take it off and inspect it a little better.
never mind thankks for all the help......i decided that i am goin to try and repair the cracks.....i will take pics and post to show everyone.....thnks for all the help
All of ZZP's new stage 3's are made of phenolic, both halves. Before that they had half aluminum and half ultem. The ultem kept on cracking and zoomer said it was from incorrect install/torquing and damage was only cosmetic. Believe what you want but I didnt see anyone prove that it was causing a leak, so he might actually be right.
This is the typical cracking of the ultem:
